What is "STAR SOCCER"

Star Soccer is a skills program run by the "Hamilton Soccer Development Centre" based at Hamilton's Premier Football surface Star Turf.

The Star Soccer program is designed with what we call ‘1^st Touch’ football.  It is all about ball control and instilling confidence in a player when he/she has the ball, and building on these skills so they can be done at speed.  All our sessions progressively build on technical ability and individual skills.  Each level increases slightly in difficulty but is very achievable. Star also gives the opportunity for those parents wanting to learn to coach, to participate and extend their knowledge for the Beautiful Game. 
We promote a 'Community of Football'.

STAR TURF INDOOR CENTRE

The "StarTurf Indoor Centre" is now open.  The turf has been laid and we have already had a couple of games to test it out.  It is amazing, very fast and feels great underfoot, everybody loved it. This is the same turf used overseas that the professional clubs use. 
The best thing is that the turf is always mowed to the right height, the field is nice and flat, the sun shines all the time, and "There's No MUD".

Star Academy Update

Just a quickie.

A sad but exciting time for a few of our Star Soccer founder members, these boys have now moved into our Under 15's program based at West Hamilton to play Under 15's - Thank you from The Star Soccer Team and all the best with your future Footballing endevours: Patrick Howell, Hamish Comber, Spencer Young, Christopher Homell, Jack Cottrel, Evan Davis. 

Our Senior and Junior Academies have played in a couple of friendlies this year already with some great results, although the teams dont play together during the Season the teams have shown some real character and Football talent, all so early in the Season too, very exciting. Results to date:

February: Jnr Academy Won 2-1 South Auckland Football Centre Academy U12) Manukau Christian School,    Snr Academy  Lost 2-4 South Auckland Football Centre Academy U15) Manukau Christian School

March: Jnr/Snr Academy (U12) Lost 3-2 Bay Kiwis (Weka St), Jnr/Snr Academy Won 4-0 Bay Kiwis (Links Ave, Tga)

15th April: New Snr Academy (U12) Won 9-0 Hamilton Wanderers Open Grade, special thanks to our 3 Junior Academy players trialing for the Senior Academy great stuff boys, a very proud Coach left Weka on Friday, thanks boys : ) Shane

Thanks to all those players that came to our 3 Day Football clinic in July.  We were very lucky with the weather, only started raining on the last day just befre we finished up.

Hamish takes on Barcelona

Congratulations to Hamish Comber who was selected for the 82 Academy U14 team to play at the Mediterranean International Cup in Barcelona. 
This was a team of players selected from around NZ who play at a very high calibre.  The tournament has teams such as Barcelona, AC Milan, Liverpool and Man. United academy, as well as Brazil, Japan and other national academy teams.
Hamish said he learnt alot and the level of players were very good, and that we are not that far from the playing level on the international scene, especially since most of the players are at least 2+ years older.

This was a great opportunity for Hamish and one that our other Star Soccer Academy athletes can work towards if the desire is there.  With our partnership with Ricki Herbert and his 82 Academy we have a wonderful opportunity to make the international pathway a reality for some of our athletes.

Rotorua Re-match - March 13th 2010

We are having our home leg of the Rotorua games on Saturday March 13th at the Weka St grounds. Rotorua are bringing four teams up to play (U10, U11, U12, & U14).
All current Star Soccer players are welcome to come and play.
The Rotorua teams will be at the grounds at about 9am and we intend to have the first games kick-off at 10am.

There will be a BBQ for lunch and drinks can be bought from the clubrooms.
